The Marcoses dedicated their entire political careers to revising history and creating the illusion that the Martial Law period was the Golden Age of the Philippines. Martial Law as a “golden era,” was only felt by the Marcoses and their cronies who painted the streets red and acted like gods among men.

This is an abstract painting on a 15x19” flattened canvas board. If you look closely, there are red fingerprints beneath the golden layer. It represents all the lives that were lost, the names that were forgotten, and the survivors who are tirelessly fighting up to this day. The injustices are proven by evidence, but the truth is brushed off as if it never happened.

At first glance, you will notice how expensive-looking it is because of its bright and shiny appearance. It represents the massive ill-gotten wealth that the Marcoses and their cronies accumulated from tax evasion and corruption. The “Golden Aid” is a representation of historical distortion. This is especially relevant as the Marcoses continue to launch widespread machinery of fake news and miseducation.

The information accessible to a person influences their perspectives on different things. As fake news and distorted history become easily accessible and present to Filipinos, more and more get swayed by illusions and hollow promises. The masses who are pushed to believe illusions are not to be blamed. The Marcoses should be held accountable for the atrocities they have led and for their attempts to distort history for their own personal gain.

History is about to rewrite itself, but we must never forget. We should not dare to forget.
